Nando’s Chief Marketing Officer receives Loeries Marketing Leadership and Innovation Award for 2018
Doug Place, Chief Marketing Officer of Nando’s IMEA, has been awarded the Marketing Leadership and Innovation Award at the first night of the 40th Loerie Awards, held at the Durban ICC on Friday night. One of the brand communication industry’s highest honours, the award is in recognition of the achievements of one individual over an extended period of time.
Loeries CEO, Andrew Human said that companies like Nando’s set a high bar in brand leadership and it takes great skill from individuals of Doug’s professional calibre to maintain this kind of lead. “This award is designed to honour an achiever like Doug who brings sustained dedication and performance as a marketing professional. We make this award based on his commitment and innovative approach to building brands.”
“I’m in awe of this honour,” said Place, remarking that he’s been totally blindsided by the accolade. “The very essence of this award is leadership which is never singular. I’ve been so fortunate to be led by great marketers and urged on by brave creative partners. Great brands have great stories to tell and I’ve been lucky to work for a number of great South African brands from Lunch Bar to Ster-Kinekor and now it’s such a joy to be able to tell the Nando’s story.”
Prior to Nando’s, Doug was with Ster-Kinekor, Cadbury South Africa and Snackworks (AVI). Under his stewardship, many of South Africa’s favourite consumer brands have reached market share highs. He has received nearly 40 international and national marketing and advertising awards, including a Grand Prix and three Gold Loeries for Ster-Kinekor’s “#Open Eyes” campaign. In 2016, the Loeries rated Doug as one of the top marketing ambassadors in South Africa. In 2015 he was recognised by Destiny Man Magazine as one of South Africa’s ‘Young and Powerful’ industry leaders and in 2014 he was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” in South African media by The Media publication.
