Greg Gray inducted into the Loeries Hall of Fame
Greg Gray, renowned film director at Cape Town production company Romance Films was inducted into the Loeries Hall of Fame during the final night of the 40th Loerie Awards, held at the Durban ICC on Saturday 18 August. He is the second film director to receive this honour after Keith Rose was inducted in 2014.
“Everyone in the commercials industry knows Greg Gray,” said Loeries CEO Andrew Human. “He has been responsible for an amazing body of beautiful, memorable and award-wining work over many years – a true legend in the industry.”
His iconic ad for Virgin Atlantic was voted the number one international commercial worldwide by Campaign Magazine, as well as being included in the Shots 100 issue as one of the best ever commercials of all time. Gray’s work has also featured in the Gunn Report, including a placement in the top 50 commercials worldwide. He has been listed in the BestAdsOnTv Top 20 directors worldwide and has also been commemorated as director of the year by AdReview. This is in addition to the numerous awards he has won globally.
“Does this mean my career is over?” is what Gray wanted to know when he heard the news. For the sake of enjoyable ads, let’s hope not.
