Helena Woodfine
Executive Producer and Founding Partner, Romance Films
Cape Town

Helena is an executive producer and founding partner of ROMANCE FILMS.

As a young film school graduate, she soon realised that production was in her blood. She began her career in advertising at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris, where she had the opportunty to learn from and work with some of the best creatives in the world. Over a period of ten years, Helena produced some of South Africa’s most iconic commercials as well as gaining a wealth of crazy and life-changing experiences, like getting lost on a vast salt pan that ended in an epic helicopter search.

In 2002 she joined Velocity Films as Greg Gray’s producer. Since then, their unwavering creative partnership has resulted in a body of award-winning work consistent in quality and concept that continues to this day.

Recognised as one of the top creative producers in South Africa, Helena’s relentless pursuit of excellence and her passion for every aspect of the production craft is both respected and renowned. She has developed a particular love for the casting process, due to the narrative and performance-focused work that Greg and Helena have become masterful at creating. Overall, Helena’s signature approach to production comes from an unwavering respect for stong ideas and a drive to always create memorable and evocative films.

Helena and Greg have recently taken their creative partnership to the next level with the establishment of ROMANCE, a bespoke production company formed with fellow director and producer duo Terence Neale and Rozanne Rocha-Gray. The creative collaboration inherent in the DNA of the company allows both teams to focus on crafting and producing their best work, as well as nurturing up-and-coming directorial talent.

Jeff Tyser
Writer and Creative Director, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris
Johannesburg

Jeff once got 7 Mercedes-Benz headlines past Jenny Glover, in a single review. It ranks amongst his greatest career achievements. Another is managing to remain in the industry for 14 years without anyone discovering that he really has no idea what he’s doing. In that time he has been privileged to work with some amazingly talented people, whose larger-than-average brains have helped him win a few awards, both locally and abroad.

Jeff is currently employed at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris as a writer and creative director. He likes humans more than robots, listening more than talking, and Guinness ‘Horses’ more than Apple’s ‘1984.’ He will never, ever say no to a cup of tea.

Hello. If you’re here, reading jury bios on a website for advertising awards, then, apart from everything else that may be wrong with you, you must really be desperate to win one. Well, after 38 brochure copy briefs with 3576 reverts, 27 60” radio campaigns reduced to 10” live reads, 9 riveting Andrew Human Loerie Welcome Speeches, 7537 furious index finger slams on the tab button while operating Microsoft Word, consistently clicking “save” instead of “save as” and 1800 days of chase timesheets, I’m cynical AF. But good luck out there, I’m sure you’ll get a shortlist. Everyone does. I love this game.
