The Loeries Jury Presidents play a vital role guiding the judging team in their search for the best brand communication from across Africa and the Middle East. Four international creative leaders will head up the 2019 selection team. These Jury Presidents are selected from outside Africa and the Middle East, to ensure they provide impartial supervision of the judging process. All four Jury Presidents, as well as the full jury, will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

London-based Katja Thielen is the Design Jury President for the Loeries 2019. Katja co-founded Together Design in 2003 and she brings an impeccable eye and over 20 years of design experience to the judging team.
Katja’s collaboration-driven agency has produced engaging and beautiful work for diverse and interesting clients, including designing for some of the world’s best loved British brands: Fortnum & Mason, Caffè Nero, Roald Dahl, Gordon’s Gin, Peter Rabbit, the Museum of London and five stamp collections for the Royal Mail. She has vast experience across both B2B and B2C markets.
Katja’s skills don’t end with traditional advertising. In 2013, Together Design launched Perfectly Put Together, an online store selling beautiful oddities, each unique and wonderful. This retail adventure has helped Katja to further understand the market and her clients. She loves the challenge of developing emotional connections, crafting personality and creating new brands – making her even more passionate about consumer brands and the industry as a whole.

Meet our Film and Radio Jury President, Nedal Ahmed. Nedal is a senior copywriter at 72andSunny in Amsterdam, whose portfolio includes “The Talk”, the 2018 Cannes Lions Grand Prix and Emmy-winning film for Procter & Gamble, which offers an insight into the realities of racism in America.
Nedal was born in Libya to Sudanese parents, and lived in Egypt and Yemen before immigrating to the United States at age 11. She received degrees in marketing and advertising from the University of North Texas, where she graduated magna cum laude. She spent four years at BBDO New York, before moving to 72andSunny in 2019.
Nedal’s other work includes: “Mama Said Knock You Out”, a spot from Chase featuring Serena Williams; and #OneGoodReason, an anti-smoking campaign for CVS, which was subsequently praised by Michelle Obama.
Nedal is currently featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 – Marketing and Advertising 2019, and The Drum x 50 Under 30 US Women in Advertising. She has eight Cannes Lions to her name, five One Show Gold Pencils and nine D&AD pencils.
