Open Chair, in partnership with the Loeries, was formed in response to the speech given at Loeries Creative Week 2016 by incoming chairperson, Suhana Gordhan. She addressed the lack of women in leadership in advertising and the importance of creating access and building bridges for young women coming up in the industry.
Open Chair now does exactly that, it’s a network for women that provides the opportunity for engagement and interaction. It encourages face time and offers inspiration for young women in the industry. It's about making space and time for our young women to meet face-to-face with more experienced senior women to share stories and experiences about ‘growing up’ in the industry with limited access to women in leadership and ultimately inspire their growth and success.
The Open Chair initiative is the brainchild of Suhana Gordhan, Jenny Glover and Simoné Bosman with the Fittingly, the inaugural Open Chair networking event took place on the eve of Women’s Day 2017.
