Internet Video – up to 30s
Videos created specifically for Internet or mobile communication. This includes YouTube paid for commercials, as well as viral videos and promotions.

Type A & Individual Element

  • Internet Videos up to 30 seconds.
  • Entries must include original content.

NOTE: Broadcast commercials subsequently posted on the Internet may NOT be entered here.

Internet Video – above 30s
Videos created specifically for Internet or mobile communication. This includes YouTube paid for commercials, as well as viral videos and promotions.

TV Trailers and Content Promos
This includes all promotions for broadcast content.

Type A Individual Element

  • Existing footage may be used, e.g. material from featured programming content.
  • Entries must include original content.

NOTE: this does NOT include station and channel branding, such as logos and interstitials - this should be entered in the Broadcast Design & Graphics in Communication Design.

Other Screens
Video created specifically to air on screens other than TV, cinema or the Internet. This includes in-store, waiting rooms, in-flight, stadiums, outdoor screens, airports, event screenings, corporate video.

  • Ensure your entry description explains the context and how the material was viewed.
  • Entries must include original content.

TV1G

Branded Content Video – Single
For  the creation of a single, stand-alone video.

Includes: Feature film or mini-series episode made for television, cinema, DVD, or online release, including all genres – fiction, reality, documentary or entertainment.

Type A & Individual Element

  • OPTION A: The brand may create a content vehicle for the specific purpose of showcasing the brand, for example a reality series sponsored by the brand and integrating the brand in the messaging and content.
  • OPTION B: The brand may work with an independent producer by integrating the brand into an existing content platform, for example by including elements of the brand in an ongoing television series, in one or more episodes.
  • Ensure that your entry description explains the context and how the material was viewed.
  • Entries must include original content.

Branded Content Video – Series
For the creation of an ongoing Branded Content series made up of multiple episodes or video elements.

Includes: Mini-series made for television, cinema, DVD, or online release, including all genres – fiction, reality, documentary or entertainment.

  • OPTION A: The brand may create a content vehicle for the specific purpose of showcasing the brand, for example a reality series sponsored by the brand and integrating the brand in the messaging and content.

Music Videos
Includes all video with the specific purpose of promoting the artist. The jury will judge innovation in the creation of the video

South African Non-English Film

Type A & Individual Element

  • Entries can be aired on television, cinema or online to a substantial audience.
  • Entries must include original content.
  • Only film in South African non-English languages can be entered.
  • The aim of the South African category is to assist in the transformation of our industry and address the imbalances of the past specifically in South Africa.

Optional:

TV2      FILM CRAFTS

Only creative work applicable to the Film categories can be entered into Film Crafts, however, it is not a prerequisite that your work is entered into one of these categories.

Direction

For lighting and camera techniques. The craft award is awarded to the director of photography.

Writing
For an original script. The Craft Award is awarded to the copywriter.

Type B Individual Element

Production Design
For in-camera original art direction incorporating set design, set dressing, styling, make-up, props and wardrobe. The Craft Award is awarded to the film production company art director.

  • Entries must include original content.
 

TV2E

Animation
Includes any use or combination of cel, stop-motion and computer animation in 2D or 3D. The Craft Award is awarded to the animator.

Type B Individual Element

  • Crafts must follow the same submission requirements as the corresponding category above.
  • Live action may be included but only as a layer or element in a 3D scene or a 2D design.
  • Entries must include original content.

Special Visual Effects
Includes practical elements of the production design that take place 'in- camera', such as model-making and explosions, as well as effects added or created after filming has taken place, e.g. digital effects, CGI and compositing. Includes 3D effects over live action plates (e.g. fire, particles, water, face replacements, matte paintings, CG characters, CG props, set extensions etc.) The Craft award is awarded to the VFX Operator.

Editing
The Craft Award is awarded to the off-line editor.

Original Music & Sound Design
For the composition of an outstanding, original piece of music and/or sound effects design. The craft award is awarded to the composer or sound designer.

  • Only original sound effects / music / soundtracks can be entered here. Do not enter existing licensed music or tracks.
  • Entries must include original content.

Best Use of Licenced Music
For the best use of licensed music where the choice and marriage of the musical score to the picture enhances the creative idea. The craft award can be won by the entering
agency / company.

Performance
For a performance on-camera (e.g.: actor) or off-camera artiste (e.g. voice-over). The Craft Award is awarded to the

These instructions apply to all Film material.

PLEASE NOTE: NO OTHER FORMATS WILL BE ACCEPTED – If your files are not sent in the correct format your entry may be rejected!

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT REPLACEMENT MATERIAL, so please make sure that the version you have uploaded or sent to us is the correct and final material.

TRANSLATION – All non-English entries must include subtitles. Include any necessary explanation for the jury to understand the context of the translation.

DO NOT PLACE YOUR NAME OR YOUR AGENCY BRANDING ON YOUR ENTRY
As all work is judged anonymously, you must ensure that no reference to your agency is included on the entry.

FILM CRAFTS - Crafts must follow the same submission requirements as the Film main category. Entries must incllude original content.

Overview Video

You can provide footage of the entry itself, as well as supporting information about your work. It is highly recommended that the presentation is tailored/adapted to highlight the elements most relevant to the chosen category.

  • Maximum length = 2 minutes
  • Maximum size = 400MB
  • In addition to the overview, you have the option to submit the full-length work which may be viewed at the judges’ discretion

Original Content Video

Original execution of the content that was commercially launched or aired.

30 Second Edit

We recommend you submit an additional 30 second edit with all long format entries, which may include a voiceover. This edit will not be judged but will be used on screen at the awards ceremony should your work win. If no edit is received, the original video will fade in and out on screen at the awards.

HOW TO SEND YOUR FILESUPLOAD VIA OUR ONLINE ENTRY SYSTEM
You can upload your files directly to your media library via the online entry process. You have the option of uploading your files while completing your entry form, or you can choose to upload them at a later stage. Just login to your account to create an entry or manage your media.

SUPPLY A 30 SECOND EDIT – We recommend that all long format entries (videos over 30 seconds) should be accompanied by an additional 30 second edit, which can include a voiceover. This will be used on screen at the awards ceremony should your work win. If no edit is received, the original video will fade in and out on screen at the awards. The awards ceremony will take place in the same week as judging, so it is important that you submit the required material during the entry process.

Hints and Tips

TELEVISION, FILM & VIDEO

TIP No 1: The judges are looking at hundreds of entries - where necessary, provide additional information to help them to understand your entry in terms of our judging criteria: Innovation, Quality of execution, relevance to the Brand, Target Audience and Chosen Medium.

TIP No 2: All non-English entries should have English subtitles.
