Ian Mackenzie

Across 15 years in the business, first as writer then creative director, Ian has worked at the forefront of digital and creative innovation. During that time, his work has earned more than 100 international awards for creativity and effectiveness, including One Show, D&AD, Clios, Webby Awards and a total of 17 Cannes Lions.

In 2014, he was ranked #1 Copywriter in Canada in Strategy Magazine’s Creative Report Card. Ian was also co-creator and writer of the influential “Our Food. Your Questions.” radical transparency platform for McDonald’s, which started in Canada then rolled out globally.

While at Tribal DDB, Ian was selected to receive direct and formal creative director training from industry legends Keith Reinhard, Amir Kassaei, Bob Scarpelli, Matt Eastwood and Lisa Bennett. As creative leader of the data-driven creative agency FCB/SIX, Ian recently led a project for PFLAG Canada (“Destination Pride”) that went on to become the most awarded Canadian campaign at the 2018 Cannes Lions – and the second most awarded campaign in Canadian history.

Major clients have included Honda, AB/InBev, Cadbury, Taco Bell and BMW.

Megha Dutta
Creative Director, DDB

With a career spanning 15 years, Megha Dutta has worked across two of the most challenging, complex and dynamic economies - India and Africa. She has worked with Ogilvy, Y&R, JWT and DDB (both in India and Nairobi). 

Her work has been recognised for creativity and effectiveness at both international and regional awards across both markets. She has been awarded at Cannes, Young Guns, Effie’s, SOAA, AAAI and Cristal making her a Creative Director within the first 7 years of her career. 

As one of very few women Creative Heads in Kenya, she champions the agenda for inclusion and representation in advertising.

Fouad Abdel Malak
Executive Creative Director, TBWA\RAAD

Dubai

With over 18 years of experience in the region, Fouad is currently serving his second stint at TBWA\RAAD, Dubai as Executive Creative Director, after holding the creative helm at BBDO, Dubai for 4+ years. His career highlights include key business wins and leading some of the most awarded teams in the region, as well as working on sought-after brands like: Nissan, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Infiniti, Pepsico, Emirates Airlines, MARS, Daimler-Benz, GE, among other notable names.

We think of his work as provocative, yet driving business results, scoring the agency: multiple Grands Prix from Integrated to Direct to Innovation, and Golds’ at major award shows on Louvre Abu Dhabi, Nissan, SCB, Domino’s, MARS, Merc, MTV Arabia and many others, from Cannes to the Dubai Lynx and beyond. Fouad loves to challenge the norms, a “disruptor” by nature, most passionate about integrated innovation and was named among the top 3 best Executive Creative Directors in the MENA Region, according to the official B&W 2017 Report, helping propel his agency to win both Agency and Network of the Year at the 2018 Dubai Lynx, with a record 8 Grand Prix.

Ahmed Tilly
Executive Creative Director, FCB Africa
Johannesburg

Ahmed Tilly was born at the Coronationville Hospital in Johannesburg, grew up in Polokwane, studied in Johannesburg, lived in Lenasia EXT 1, moved to Cape Town for 6 years before settling back in Johannesburg.

Tilly has worked at a supermarket at the cigarette counter, at a clothing store called John Craig selling shoes, folded a million t-shirts as a casual at Edgars, did a stint as a switchboard operator and stood outside a pharmacy selling plastic kids sunglasses. Needless to say, his dream to become a pharmacist died a disappointing death. His focus shifted to architecture but he failed miserably at studying science. Realising that this dream too had died, he moved back to his very 1st love… words.

As a copywriter, Tilly worked at agencies like Lindsay Smithers, Publicis, The Jupiter Drawing Room Cape Town and TBWA/Gavin Reddy. In 2005 he started Black River FC where he created some of the country’s most provocative, most memorable, most audacious, most South African work for brands like Nando’s, MINI, 1st for Women, VUZU AMP and Channel O. In 2016 he joined FCB as Chief Creative Officer, the same year he was recognized as “The Most Admired Creative Boss” by marklives.com

As far as awards go, Ahmed thinks he’s won at pretty much all the major award shows but he’s not sure. See, he has never kept a record of the awards he’s won because he’s never looked at statues as a validation of success.


Cameron Watson
Creative Director, King James
Cape Town

Starting out as an art director, Cameron is now a creative director at King James Group, Cape Town. During his career he has worked across many of South Africa’s industries, allowing him to share sets on location with a F1 world champion at a racetrack and a UN water engineer in a remote Ethiopian village. The results of these and others have created some brand defining work, earning both local and international awards and even a permanent, internationally recognised day in the annual calendar.

With a focus on integrated, smart ideas he feels that communication can change the way people live their lives, but first it has to be understandeable. Simplicity is the key. Major clients have included SAB, Sanlam, Santam, Johnnie Walker, British Airways and New Balance.

David Prior

Cape Town

In his career, David has shot some of South Africa’s most loved advertising campaigns. His signature photographic style mixes beautiful aesthetics with a wry sense of humour, elevating the creative message in the most eye-catching way possible. 

He has won trophies of every colour at Cannes, D&AD, One Show, Art Directors Club, Clios, London International, New York Festivals, Loeries and the Eagle Awards and been in the Communication Arts Photography Annual and the Luerzer’s Archive 200 Best Photographers in the World. 

Heidi Kasselman

Heidi currently works as a Creative Group Head at Net#work BBDO in Johannesburg. She has been in the advertising industry for 10 years and has won many local and international awards including Cannes, D&AD, One Show, African Chrystals and 2 Loerie Grand Prix awards.

She is passionate about problem solving and finding new and exciting creative solutions for brand problems.

Roanna Williams
Executive Creative Director, Joe Public United

Roanna Williams sees the world as one big canvas. By applying the imagination, you can create magic. With over twenty years’ experience, after working for some of South Africa’s best advertising agencies, she now resides with Joe Public United, South Africa’s largest independent advertising group as Executive Creative Director. She is instrumental in driving the creative output for clients such as South African Breweries, Nedbank and McCain.

She has won numerous local and international awards, including Loeries, Cannes Lions, Apex’s, One Show Pencils and D&AD’s. She has been a judge at Cannes and served on numerous Loeries and Creative Circle panels. She is also the curator, co-editor, creative director, designer and publisher of Migrate magazine. In between thinking of ideas, publishing a magazine and embarking on numerous personal projects, her ultimate ambition is to inspire her four daughters to grow up to be strong, creative and confident women in a very exciting world of boundless opportunities. She is also very passionate about the participation, growth and advancement of women in the advertising industry in South Africa.

Safaraaz Sindhi

Saf doesn’t earn a salary, he earns media. He enjoys quiet afternoons in the office unpacking consumer tensions. When he isn’t unpacking consumer tensions he is driving social engagements and flicking his social media strategies between “always on” and “always off”.

He is a firm believer in sparking conversations between brands and people. In his spare time, you will find him organically seeding his content into millennial conversations. He always tries to make good social impressions and he never goes anywhere without packing his case study with consumer trends and campaign results. He believes that just like Tupac, print is still alive.
