For the past 5 years, Virginia Hollis has run Magnetic Connection, a strategic media consultancy. Previously she was MD of The MediaShop. She has been in media for more than 30 years and her work experience covered many blue chip international and local companies, she has also worked with numerous media owners and parastatals. Virginia judged the Media Innovation category at Cannes in 2001 was a judge at AdFocus 2010 & 2011 and has chaired the Loeries Media Innovation category since 2012. Virginia is currently Chairman of SAARF (South African Audience Research Foundation) which recently changed to MRF, and is a board member of both Loeries and AMF. She was awarded Media Legend at the MOST awards in 2011.

Waithera Kabiru

Waithera is the Digital Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola in sub-saharan Africa, where, for the last 5 years she has led digital content and connections as part of the Integrated Marketing Communications team. She was the digital lead on the following successful marketing campaigns: A Billion Reasons to Believe in Africa, 2014 FIFA World Cup, Coke Studio Africa, Share a Coke and Taste the Feeling.

Prior to joining Coca-Cola, Waithera headed the Digital Media Unit of 98.4 Capital FM Kenya (Capital Group Limited), where she was instrumental in establishing the radio station’s mobile and social platforms, and managing a cross-functional team that published local and international content online.

Waithera is a thought leader in Digital Marketing and Media, and her work has been published in numerous articles and case studies locally and internationally such as Adweek, Business Daily, and showcased on Facebook and Eskimi case studies

Adaora Adheke

After over 4 years in the business (Sharemind), being the head of Unilever business, Ada was promoted to the position of Media Director. Under her leadership, the agency won several recognitions by the Client (Best Media event support during Blue Band World Bread Day Guinness Book Attempt in Nigeria and Royco Biggest Family Cooking Contest – 50 families). As a Media Director, she led a team that manages several multinationals like Frieslandcampina, Heineken, Biersdolf and won several agency pitches like Twinings, AED etc.

In 2008, she was nominated as a Jury panel member of Nigeria Outdoor Big Ads Award. In 2012, she received an award of Excellent Personality in Nigeria Women in Media Award

In 2013, she left Sharemind to Alleseason Mediacom as a General Manager where she worked again across several multinationals like Mondelez, Pepsico, Shoprite, OLX, Pladis etc. in which several recognitions was gotten from Clients in driving growth led successful campaign e.g. Launch of Pepsi Long Throat 60cl Bottle campaign that won several awards e.g. WARC Silver prize for Social Media Strategy 2016, #Goldgiraffe Award at Publicis Africa Conference 2016 held in Cape town. Gold PiX Award from OOH Poster Award Nigeria and Iconic Brand of the year 2015 Award in Soft drink category in Nigeria. For OLX, best-classified Advert website of the year by BoICT and fastest growing brand in Nigeria 2016 by ICT Magazine.

In 2015, she was nominated at Industry body ( Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria- MIPAN) as the Chairperson Technical Committee and member accreditation committee and Media Liaison Committee. She was also a member of local organizing committee of PAMRO (Pan Africa Media Research Organisation). Within 2010 – 2016 she functioned as Cannes Jury member with Nigeria Young lions Media Award, while in 2017 she became the Cannes Jury President/Chairperson in Nigeria Young lions Media Award

Ken Varejes

Ken Varejes completed his B.Comm (Honours) at the University of Natal and lectured at Natal Technikon on the subject of Media and Marketing strategy.

After a stint looking after the national operation in the marketing services division of the SABC and then senior Marketing Manager of TV1, Ken was appointed deputy MD  of TaxiNet, which later evolved into ComutaNet, South Africa’s leading commuter advertising organisation. Ken soon took the reign as Managing Director in 1997 and then grew the company into 7 profitable operating divisions. In 2003 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer for Primedia Out of Home and the Commuter Media Divisions of Primedia. 

In 2004 Ken launched and led a new media division for the Primedia Group, Primedia Unlimited. He grew the business into 15 different businesses with 11 started from scratch and all profitable becoming the largest grouping of OOH businesses in Africa.  Ken left the Primedia Group in 2015 after a sustained 36% year on year compound growth over the 11 years of operation. 

Ken’s most recent venture, Nfinity Media, kicked off in 2016 operating a range of businesses in the OOH/eventing and digital environment. He presently has 7 businesses in the mix.

Adelaide started her career in the OoH industry 20 years ago prior to running her own premise signage business. She joined the Media industry in 1997 where she was originally employed by CorpCom as a Sales Executive. Adelaide has held many positions within the Company and has shared the journey with the company which has changed name and ownership over the past 20 years from, CorpCom to Clear Channel, INMOutdoor, Continental Media and now JCDecaux.

Ms. McKelvey, was appointed as Sales & Marketing Director at Continental Outdoor Media in 2005, where after she accepted the challenge as Managing Director Rest of Africa in October 2012. Prior to her role as Sales & Marketing Director, she was Divisional Sales Director from 2001 to 2005 and General Sales Manager from 2000 to 2001. Since 2007, Ms. McKelvey has also served as an alternate Director to the main Board of the Company.

Adelaide sits on a number of industry advisory panels and was awarded the Industry Media Legend award in 2011. She sits as an OMC Board member as well as a judge for Loerie’s Creative awards

Bruce Williamson

Bruce has 25 years’ experience in media strategy, mostly in creative agencies. Bruce has been MD of UM South Africa for 6 years.

Bruce has worked across a wide variety of brands including Standard Bank, Telkom, MTN, SA Tourism, SAA, Microsoft, BMW, Land Rover, Nissan, General Motors, Tiger Brands, Johnson and Johnson to name a few!

Bruce has worked on several media campaigns which have garnered local and international accolades at awards shows.

Bruce is very involved in industry research bodies and has attended media conferences and awards shows around the world including in Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, Nashville, Montreux, and Rome.

Bruce is married with 2 kids, and is an avid outdoorsman, fly fisherman, and brewer of fine ales.

Koo has been actively involved in the broadcasting and media industry for 22 years and she tendered the position of Corporate Marketing and Communications Director for    M-Net. She and her team have won various industry awards which include Loeries and Promax.

In addition to being a prominent and accomplished public speaker, Koo has won various business and women empowerment awards; the latest of which was the Mail & Guardian Investing in the Future and Drivers of Change Awards 2015.

Koo’s philosophy is “success is one aspect and significance is of utmost importance” therefore, Koo also mentors young women as she believes more women should be seated around the boardroom table.

Andile Kona is the Founder and Managing Director of Mediamix360 – a full-service media agency.  Under his leadership, Mediamix360 has grown to become one of the largest local independent media agencies in the South Africa.  Andile started his media career in Media Sales at Times Media (formerly BDFM Media) working on the country’s most respected financial publications, Financial Mail and Business Day.   Prior to entering the media industry Andile studied and worked in IT at ABSA Group.  Andile is a board member of the Advertising Media Forum (AMF).  A travel enthusiast, Andile has traveled to many of the world’s capitals for work and pleasure.
