Pum Lefebure

Pum Lefebure is a co-founder and chief creative officer of Design Army in Washington, DC, where she oversees all creative coming through the agency's doors. An award-winning creative director and savvy business leader, Pum has dreamed up and developed numerous high-profile campaigns worldwide. The Thailand native brings a global sensibility to American design - a creative point of view that draws from different cultures and resonates with diverse audiences.

Guided by an international eye and entrepreneurial edge, Pum has helped expand the agency's client base and elevate its reputation as a trendsetter. Pum's hallmark is a distinctive union of the artistic and the commercial. With a rare balance of creativity, strategic thinking and industry know-how, she has proven that good design is the cornerstone of good business. Her work and words of wisdom have been featured in Huffington Post, Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, CMO magazine, Communication Arts and Adweek, to name just a few.

Pum regularly judges elite design competitions around the world including Cannes Lions, Clio, D&AD and Spikes Asia. She served as the President of the One Show Design jury, AdFest, and London International Awards. Her work has earned a plethora of awards, including D&AD, One Show, ADC, Red Dot, AIGA, SPD, and TDC, among others. She has been asked to give design lectures and lead workshops from Copenhagen and Beijing to Monterrey and Moscow. 

Pum excels at establishing the vision behind high-profile campaigns. Skilled in the creation and implementation of corporate identity, branding, conceptual design, she is known for her distinctive art direction. Pum has guided the design and development of an array of award-winning work. Her clients include the Academy Awards, Adobe, GE, Disney, Bloomingdale's, Ritz Carlton, PepsiCo, Washington Ballet, Neenah, Smithsonian and Lucas Film. 

Pum was named as one of Adweek's Creative100 in 2016. Graphic Design USA named her as one of the top 50 People to Watch, and she was awarded as a Rising Star by the Washington Business Journal's Women Who Mean Business. Pum currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for The One Club in New York.

Aimen has worked in the design field for more than 17 years and has been involved in branding projects for Reckitt Benckiser, Qatar 2015 Handball Championships, Riyad Bank, Emirates Airlines, TeliaSonera, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Hilton, Atlantis and Zayed Future Energy Prize.

Aimen has worked in many of the international branding agencies such as Brand Union, FITCH and Landor, where he specialises in brand identities and the Arabisation of English wordmarks.

Besides enjoying delivering detailed crafted work, Aimen is also passionate about all things creative and keeping up to date with music, photography and design. 

 

Gaby de Abreu

Gaby de Abreu is the co-founder and Executive Creative Director of Switch, a multi-disciplinary design and communications agency responsible for shaping some of South Africa’s most iconic and best-loved brands over the past 18 years.

Gaby’s passion for sport – and soccer in particular – combined with his extensive industry experience, has led him to create world-renowned identity programmes for the likes of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Orlando Pirates, Springbok Rugby and Coca-Cola for their global Olympics campaign.

At the helm of Switch, he has also led a variety of projects for MTN, Famous Brands, Investec, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Sun International and more, while his work has been awarded at numerous local and international award shows and featured across many global design publications.

Passionate about the development of young talent, Gaby actively promotes collaboration within the branding and design industry and has been honoured to speak at design conferences and judge on award show panels across the world, including the prestigious Cannes Lions.

Gaby currently serves on the boards of the Loeries and Creative Circle, continues to champion excellence in South African design, and still likes to kick a ball around every now and again.

 

 

 

Nathan Reddy
Founder & Chief Creative Officer

Nathan’s rise as one of South Africa’s most awarded creative’s has been fast and furious. He started his career in 1990 at FCB. In 1992 he joined TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris as head of creative moving on to head the creative department at AMC, who did the ANC election campaign in 1994 later known as DDB SA. Nathan is a founding member of TBWA/ Gavin/Reddy, he then started GRID where he is the CEO for the last 10 years. He also sits on the worldwide creative board of TBWA and on the board of the creative circle of South Africa.

Nathan's experience in the communications industry is widespread and across many brand categories, Nissan, Michelin, Destination brand Qatar, Brand South Africa, and Trade and Industry Brand South Africa, Standard Bank, BMW, FNB, Transnet, MTN, Exclusive Books, Southern Sun, McDonald’s, Nissan, Coca-Cola, Mobil, Virgin Mobile, Liberty Life, The Louvre to name a few. 

Nathan’s work has been published both locally and internationally. He’s won numerous awards, and has judged every major awards ceremony in the world, Cannes, One Show, D&AD, the Dubai Lynx's where he chaired as President.

He is the founder of The South African Graphic Design Council (THINK) now known as the Brand Council South Africa as well as an executive director of the Creative Circle. Nathan’s current challenge is transforming the creative industry in South Africa. 

His passion is to uplift Africa one brand at time.

 

Bronwen Rautenbach

With an Honours degree in Information Design, Bronwen is a brand design expert with 16 years experience in multi-national design agencies. In 2010 she founded Sunshinegun with George Rautenbach.

This inspirational studio, based in sunny South Africa, delivers illuminating work for clients throughout Africa, the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Canada, USA and Australia. Sunshinegun London started up in 2016.

Over the years, Bronwen has won numerous local and international awards, including most recently a Loerie Grand Prix Award for the new Global Visual Identity System for Nando’s. Bronwen has judged at several local and international design award shows.

Bronwen was elected a board member of Think (South African Graphic Design Council) in 2009. She plays an active role in growing the South African design industry, lecturing and running workshops at universities and educational institutions whenever possible. Growing and mentoring young women into creative leaders is an area of personal passion.

Bronwen has led projects for the following clients; Nando’s, AB InBev, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Tiger Brands, Media 24, De Beers, Standard Bank, FNB, Famous Brands, Kerzner International, SABC and Tsogo Sun.

 

 

Collette Wasielewski
Creative Director
FCB Joburg
Johannesburg, South Africa

Currently, Collette Wasielewski is one of a multi-talented team of Creative Directors at FCB Joburg. She cut her branding teeth at Enterprise IG (now Brand Union) where she was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to rebrand the Nigerian banking giant GTBank.

In the following 12 years and 4 agencies, she worked on and learned from brands such as Virgin Mobile, Coca-Cola, Converse, Toyota, Vodacom, South African Tourism, Brand South Africa, Nando’s and 46664 apparel amongst many others – winning a few awards along the way.

In 2011 she was approached by DraftFCB South Africa to help build their design capability. Her talented team now tackles everything from traditional corporate identity through to brand activation and rainbow creation – literally. The latter resulted in them being awarded at Cannes Lions, D&AD, Loeries, Clios and the New York Festivals.

In 2015 she handed over the design portfolio reigns to creatively head up the South African Tourism business, a portfolio that has always been close to her heart. 

In the limited spare time that serving her country affords her, she is a mother to 1 human and 3 animals and wakes up everyday feeling privileged to be living in South Africa and Africa right now.

 

 

Jenny Ehlers

Jenny Ehlers is Executive Creative Director of King James RSVP, the design and promotions arm of the King James Group. Despite belonging to an independent agency group, King James RSVP has been fortunate to work on the design and promotion of some prestigious global brands, including Levi’s® and Johnnie Walker®, along with having a strong local client base.

King James RSVP has managed to scoop some prestigious local and international awards, including 3 consecutive Loerie Grands Prix, 2 One Show Gold Pencils and 2 D&AD entries in the book. Jenny judged The One Show in 2007, the Dubai Lynx in 2012 and was on the jury at Cannes twice, in 2006 and in 2017.

She currently sits on the Academic and Advisory Boards of various design institutions in Cape Town, with her passion being the nurturing of young talent for the industry.

 

Simone Rossum

Simone Rossum joined Joe Public in 2006. has over 11 years industry experience in brand design. She was appointed Executive Creative Director of Shift Joe Public in 2016, after having served as a Creative Director with the agency for 6 years.

Shift Joe Public has been recognised for numerous local and international awards. Simone has been elected a Loeries Awards Judge in 2009, 2012 and 2015. Career highlights include Shift Joe Public being ranked the top brand and design agency by the Loeries Awards in 2014, and Simone being ranked top Creative Director in the same year.

Vumile Mavumengwana

Vumile has been in the industry for well over 10 years. He has worked for some of the country’s reputable Advertising and Design agencies; namely Ogilvy, The Jupiter Drawing Room CT, Black River F.C. and Joe Public as a hybrid Art Director & Designer, growing rank to Creative Director of Design at M&C Saatchi Abel. Zoning in on his passion for visual communication, his focus is on everything Design.

He is an Independent Creative at VM DSGN - who specialise in Brand Design, Concept and Creative Development. His work has been featured on Between10&5, a local creative showcase that celebrates homegrown talent, commissioned by the South African Post Office to design their commemorative postage stamps - paying tribute to our music legends.

He is passionate about locally inspired work and strives to add his hand to the African visual language that is fast emerging and waving the flag that local, can be proudly global. 

 

Kassie Naidoo
Creative Director

Kassie believes that her path since graduating has been an adventure, having started in magazine design and art direction in the late 80s and spending over a decade on some of SA's best titles, she finally got her feet wet at Draft FCB in 2000 on a challenging piece of fashion retail business. Moving up from art director to Group Head, she learnt many valuable lessons along the way as well as the importance of mentorship in the industry. Next was a 2-year stint at TBWA/Gavin/Reddy, creating award-winning work across various mediums including the PICA's Best Consumer Magazine and Best Youth Magazine that year. Kassie then joined the King James Group to set up the design arm, RSVP Johannesburg for the multi-award winning Cape Town agency. 8 good years passed in a flash with her working on some of SA's best blue chip brands. A short sabbatical followed in 2012. Kassie joined Y&RSA as ECD in January 2013, heading up the PicknPay brand with the largest team of her career to date. She enjoyed the challenge of touching every part of the brand as well as being able to mentor a group of creatives under enormous daily pressures. During her period on the brand, Pick n Pay picked up its first Loeries in its 47-year history. In late 2015 Kassie got out of the daily creative grind to explore other creative expressions.

She currently collaborates and consults on some of SA's best brands as well as stays up musing on the meaning of life and the role of creativity in creating a better world for all. 

 

Sindiso Nyoni

Sindiso Nyoni is a Bulawayo (Zimbabwe) born, self-developed Graphic artist who has been described as a contemporary illustrator, activist, street-artist, and multi-disciplinary graphic designer. He obtained a BTech degree in Graphic Design from the University of Johannesburg and has worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, and art director in the South African advertising sector.

Also known as R!OT, his work has been published locally; exhibited at International Biennial Poster Exhibitions and he has collaborated on projects which have won Cannes Lion awards. The Johannesburg based graphic artist tackles some of Africa’s most pressing issues in the form of visual art. His work primarily consists of a pencil, ink, pastels, gauche, acrylic and digital media fusion, to create a subversive ‘street’ style. His work has been showcased locally as well as far afield as New York, London, Berlin, Madrid, Teneriffe, Zagreb, The Vitra Design Museum, The Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.

With a portfolio that comprises local and international brands, he has also been part of the Design Indaba mentorship programme, The Botswana based Ideas Expo judging jury for 2014, The African representative for Icograda’s 50th/World Communication Design Day showcase 2013, as well as an ISS (International Security Studies) Alumni from the African Centre for Peace & security Training in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).

Tsepo Makate brags a Diploma in Graphic Design from the University of Johannesburg. With more than 12 years experience in the Advertising Industry, he has had the opportunity to work on brands like Virgin Money, Sasol, Castle Lite, Nando's, Jack Daniels, Mastercard, Coca Cola, FNB and MTN. When asked about the one key driver for his success, Tsepo told us “I have a passion for illustration and have always wanted to merge it with design”. Tsepo’s unique style of merging design and illustration has seen many brands. It’s been a great and humbling 12 years. Here’s to the next 12 years of doodling.

Redesign Interiors is owned by Paige Waplington. Her love for Africa and its diverse people, its rolling landscapes, its multitude of cultures, colours and textures and its inspiring nature, are what push Paige to think outside of the box and be free to express herself as uniquely as she likes. Her love for design and Africa is the making of Redesign Interiors and all its fabulousness. Redesign Interiors was created to turn drab interiors into fab interiors by telling your story, and so far, we believe we have done just that.

Paige qualified from Durban University of Technology with a bachelor's degree in Interior Design in 2010. She has been working in the industry since 2009 and started her own firm in 2011. Paige loves colour, space, technique and creating fresh, quirky spaces. She loves a good design challenge - no quirk is too crazy.

“I absolutely love my job and my life! I have an amazing husband and two gorgeous children that make me smile every day. I am proud to be where I am today and am grateful for all I and Redesign Interiors have achieved to date. Denver Manickum has been in the conferences and exhibitions industry for 18 years. He leads a branding company called I-Cube Advertising specialising in event branding. Always the entrepreneurial innovator Denver has steered I-Cube into opening 3 branches across the country and has been entrusted with branding high profile events such as FIFA World Cup 2010, Top Gear, Indaba, COP17, Architects World Congress, AIDS 2016, and the likes thereof.

The success and sustainability of I-Cube have been due to Denver Manickum’s ability to constantly innovate and reinvent their business practices whilst perfecting current experiences and methods.

In addition to currently completing a Masters in business administration, Denver sits as the KZN Chairman for The Exhibition and Events Association of South Africa. Previous Portfolios were National Services Chair for the Southern African Association for the Conference Industry, President of Rotary Club of Queensburgh and Exhibition Judge for Indaba.

Denver Manickum is married with 3 children, loves to travel simply, as he would rather invest in experiences than comfort.
